Tanzania Education Corp's support has enabled Tumaini Schools to grow from one classroom in 2004 to three schools with 1,000 students, 100 staff, and 25 classrooms. Our first school, Tumaini Junior School, was founded by a Tanzanian couple, Modest and Lightness Bayo, in their own home. From these humble beginnings, Tumaini Junior School is now the top school in the Karatu district and in the top 0.7% of all primary schools in Tanzania. In order to address the need for high-quality secondary education for Tumaini Junior School graduates, Tanzania Education Corp and the Bayos founded Tumaini Senior Secondary School in 2016. Later this year, we open our third school, Tumaini Pre-Primary School, to make space for the growing number of our youngest learners.
TUMAINI JUNIOR SCHOOL
Tumaini Junior School is the top performing and second biggest school in Karatu. We currently educate almost 900 students and employ 44 teachers and 44 local staff members. The school was originally founded by a Tanzanian couple and continues to have strong roots in the community. Most importantly, Tumaini Junior is a happy place for students and staff alike. We do not just aim to perform well on exams but to foster an enthusiasm for learning among our students.
TUMAINI SENIOR SECONDARY SCHOOL
Tumaini Senior Secondary School was established in 2016 to ensure that all Tumaini graduates are able to continue receiving exceptional schooling even after they graduate Tumaini Junior. The school is STEM-focused school and serves as a leader in innovative programs - such as computer programming and project based learning - that expand beyond the Tanzanian curriculum.
TUMAINI PRE-PRIMARY SCHOOL
As enrollment numbers continue to increase at Tumaini Schools, we had to address the challenge of finding enough space to accommodate over 300 pre-primary students. In May 2017, Tumaini Pre-Primary School will open with 6 classrooms for 200 students. The school will give even more children room to learn!
